A Personal Update

Dear friends,

As some of you know, I had been planning to publish a new post once a week.

I have so many ideas, as well as many old and new photos and even a special project that I have not yet told you about.

However, my mother's health has seriously deteriorated over the past weeks. She has a cancer tumor that cannot be removed and it is taking over her body.

My mother is my favourite person in the whole world and my best friend. She has been in palliative care at our home now for some weeks and is being cared for by my family and I, nurses and doctors.

Right now, each day is different but there is always so much work to do. Unfortunately, my mother is getting weaker day by day. I don't know how much time we have left with her and how my life will go on after her loss. It is all very frightening at the moment.

I do not know yet how often I will be posting any new content during the next weeks as I want to spend a lot of time with my mother and family right now, but I also need time for myself and my hobbies in order to stay well and Riverside is a good place to be.

I felt like sharing these thoughts with you, even it is is a sad issue and nothing to do with miniatures or Sylvanians. If you have been through something similar and would like to share, feel free to message me.

The tiny kangaroo sitting on the flower is baby Valentina Zoraida. Jemima, Ralfie and their friends send you their hugs and kisses.

Have a look at Riverside's babies and toddlers in the photo above. They were so well behaved on Easter (after I gave them each a creamy chocolate egg to eat), that they kept still for about three seconds - enough to take this photo.

Lots of love to everyone and take care.

  1. Oh, dear Nina,
It's so sad about your dear mother. Still, you are very lucky being able to stay with her giving her as much love and comfort as possible. I, personally understand how important it is. My dear husband, passed away when it was impossible to be with him more than a few minutes once, or if we were lucky, twice a week, due to the epidemic restriction.
I'm sending you and your family my best comforting thoughts.
    Warm hugs, Drora

    1. Dear Drora,

Thank you for reminding me that we have been lucky to be able to keep my mother at home so far and to spend so much time with her.
It breaks my heart that during this epidemic a similar situation was not possible for you and your husband and many, many others.

I hope it will stay this way and that mom can remain in our home until the end, where she is loved and receives great amounts of attention.

Thank you for your friendship and support.

  3. Dear Nina
I'm so sorry that you're going through this! Right now, you must give your attention where it is needed the most. When you are ready to come back, your hobbies and all of us will be there for you.
My thoughts are going to be with you in the coming days.

    1. Hello Megan, lovely to meet you! It's a pleasure to meet a new face here.

Thanks a million for your comment and your kindness!
Fortunately, we are receiving some much needed and previously unexpected help from family members and blogging might be possible after all, as my sister and the nurses regularly remind me (even plead with me) to do things to soothe my nerves and unwind.

I'll be following your blog from now on. Feel free to click on the follow button on my blog as well, if you haven't yet, and to participate in my 10-year anniversary giveaway.

    2. Hello Nina
Thank you for the comment on my blog! I've been following you for a long while, I might just not always comment. I think I first got to know you through comments on other blogs I follow. I'm do not participate in giveaways because I'm in South Africa at present. No sane person would expect something to survive our postal system!
I am so glad to hear that you are receiving help and support. Take whatever people offer to you, even if it's well-meaning advice you don't intend to follow ;-)
For today, I wish you mild temperatures, a cup of tea when you need it, and peace. I'm leaving now to wait for my husband to come out of the operating theater. If all goes well today, this will be his last surgery, hopefully for a very long time! Everything is so complicated working around Covid regulations, I think you will understand that better than most people.
      Hugs for today.

  6. Dear Nina,

I'm so sorry about your dear mother, words truly fail me. My heart goes out to you and your family.

I just wanted to leave a message to send you all my support. I will be thinking about both of you and the rest of your family. Please do not worry about us in these difficult times, we will be patiently waiting as long as you need. As you mentioned, the Riversiders might be of help; I personally have always found Sylvanians very comforting and therapeutic.

Have a big hug from your friend in Spain.

  7. My heart goes out to you, Nina. When I took early retirement I welcomed the time I would spend with my mum - my best friend - but her health issues meant that was for less than 18 months. Nevertheless, that time was precious, and I hope that the time you are able to spend with your mother provides you with good memories that will sustain you.

    Take care
